About the Grand Theatre

A leading cultural hub, the Grand is proudly located in the heart of downtown London, Ontario. We are a place for all to gather, discuss, challenge, debate, celebrate, and be inspired and entertained by exceptional theatre experiences.  A not-for-profit regional theatre, the Grand produces and presents professional theatre on two stages: the Spriet Stage (~800 seats) and the Auburn Stage (~150 seats).

A typical season at the Grand runs from September to May including an annual fall High School Project production, which has a 26-year history as an integral part of our programming.

The Grand is World Curious and London Proud.  We bring the world to London with diverse, relevant, and original stories from around the globe, and through collaborations with exceptional national and international performing arts organizations.

We bring London to the world stage with a commitment to developing, producing, and premiering new and original stories through COMPASS, our new play development program. In partnership with artists and playwrights from around the world and around the corner, we present relevant, provocative and entertaining stories that remind us of our collective humanity.

The Project

Matilda -  Music and Lyrics by Tim Minchin, Book by Dennis Kelly.

Matilda is the company’s annual High School Project production. The High School Project (HSP) began in 1998 with West Side Story. Since then, the Grand Theatre has produced 39 High School Projects. The HSP offers an exceptional opportunity for students to receive education and training in the working environment of a professional theatre.

High school students from London and surrounding area are mentored by professional artists and coaches in all departments (acting, stage management, props, wardrobe, scenic art, sound, lighting, orchestra, and photography) culminating in a production on the Grand's Spriet Stage. The initiative provides leadership, creative, and communication skills that serve these students on and off stage - in every area of their lives.

The successful candidate will supervise an Equity apprentice stage manager, and typically two student stage managers on this project.

Land Acknowledgement

The Grand Theatre operates on the traditional lands of the Attawandaron (also known as Neutral) peoples and territories associated with various treaties of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, and Lunaapewak. We value the significant historical and contemporary contributions of local and regional First Nations, and all of the Original Peoples of Turtle Island (also known as North America), and acknowledge the traditional lands upon which we live, work and tell stories together.

Our Commitment

At the Grand we are committed to creating and practicing a company culture that ensures an accessible, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming space for artists, audiences, donors, board members, and staff. We actively encourage submissions from artists who self-identify as being part of underserved communities. It is our mission to reflect the diversity of our community on and off our stages. If you can imagine yourself in the role, then so can we!

Access and inclusion are important to us. If you have any questions regarding the Grand’s accessibility policies and initiatives, or any requests, we encourage you to reach out to Christine Gruenbauer, Company Manager, at cgruenbauer [at] grandtheatre.com (cgruenbauer[at]grandtheatre[dot]com)
