Like all Grand Theatre High School Project productions, School of Rock will endeavour to bring a new and unique voice to this well-known story.

- Performances on the Spriet Stage will occur from September 22 – October 3, 2026 (potential to extend to Oct 4).

THE AUDITION PROCESS (Onstage)
Auditions for onstage roles (musicians, singing, acting) will be held from April 11-16, 2026. In the application form, students can identify if they would like to play an instrument (guitar, bass, drums, or keyboard) and sing, or sing without playing an instrument. This will determine the type of audition they are scheduled for as both individual auditions and group auditions will be used to cast this show.
Please fill out the application form to receive confirmation of audition time slot. We will aim to work around student conflicts, though we ask students to make themselves as available as possible.
Individual Student Musician Auditions: Saturday, April 11, 2026
Students auditioning with an instrument and voice are asked to play a 32-bar section of a Rock song on guitar, bass, drums, or keyboard. Students should bring their own guitar or bass guitar. An upright piano or keyboard will be provided. For drummers, we ask that you record yourself playing your 32-bar song section and email a link to view the video in advance of your audition to britchie [at] grandtheatre.com (britchie[at]grandtheatre[dot]com.) All instrument players will also sing in their audition. You may accompany yourself on your instrument and sing along with your 32-bar song section, or choose a different 32-bar section of a song in the style of Rock or Pop to sing. Please bring in piano sheet music for your sung 32-bar song section if you will not accompany yourself. Creativity is welcome, so if you have another way you wish to show off your instrumental, vocal, and acting talents – give it a whirl!
Musician students will be given a 15-minute individual audition in the first half of the day, then be asked back in the afternoon for a group audition. See below for group audition details.
Group Auditions: Sunday, April 12 – Thursday, April 16, 2026
Students auditioning for a cast role who do not play an instrument will be given a group audition time after submitting their application form. In this group audition, you are asked to prepare a 32-bar section of a song in the style of Rock or Pop to sing. Please bring in piano sheet music for your song section. You will be provided in advance with some text from School of Rock to memorize to the best of your ability and be prepared to play with. Your group audition will also include improvisation activities, group collaboration work, and receiving feedback and redirection from the creative team. There is no choreography to prepare for the group audition.
Callbacks will be the next step after auditioning. These will take place the weekend of May 2-3, 2026. Successful applicants will be invited to callbacks after their audition, with scheduled times confirmed then. Please hold these dates!
