1 Day. 100 Volunteers. 4000 Poppies.

On September 19, the Grand partnered with St. Joseph’s Health Care London, Parkwood Institute to create 4,000 poppies used as part of the set in The Wars. Veterans, currently serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the RCMP, and their families, Legion members, and the community were all invited to be a part of this project.

Poppies were constructed out of red muffin liner cups glued together to form the shape of a poppy, and then stamped black in the centre.

“We wanted to make sure the design and craft could be easily managed by anyone at any age or ability. At the same time we were challenged to use materials that are flame retardant, given that the poppies would be a part of the set. So, red muffin cups fit both needs brilliantly.” – Lauren Rebelo, Assistant Technical Director.

Participants were encouraged to add their name, the name of a friend, family or loved ones who served on the backs of their poppies.

The Grand thanks the staff at St. Joseph’s Healthcare London, Parkwood Institute, the Veterans and volunteers who participated, and The Royal Canadian Legion for their support.
