The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Based on an adaptation by Christopher Bond
Presented by Musical Theatre Productions & Allswell Productions

November 28 to December 7, 2019

For the first time ever, Musical Theatre Productions is teaming up with Allswell Productions, the Brickenden award-winning company behind Dogfight (2018), to bring SWEENEY TODD: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to the stage! This musical thriller by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler will send shivers up your spine as you attend the tale.

The infamous Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to 1930's London seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for revenge inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun!

Based on an adaptation by Christopher Bond, Sweeney Todd has become a worldwide phenomenon, winning eight Tony Awards (including Best Musical) for its Broadway premiere! Be sure to find out who truly has the worst pies in London this November 28 to December 7 on the McManus Stage at the Grand Theatre.

This season, Musical Theatre Productions takes you on a trip to ancient Egypt with a story of biblical proportions as JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT makes its spectacular MTP debut! Featuring renowned music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and unforgettable lyrics by Tim Rice, JOSEPH has been a beloved and celebrated musical for over 50 years, having starred David Cassidy, Jason Donovan, Michael Damian, and Donny Osmond in the title role. Although the story may be from the Old Testament, audiences today will learn a powerful lesson on how living your true colours is the path to achieving your dreams.

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is a re-telling of the Biblical story of Joseph, a young man from Canaan whose unabashed pride and self-love makes him the target of envy and hate from his eleven brothers. Betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery, Joseph’s journey to Egypt takes him from the house of a wealthy real-estate magnate, to the depths of prison, and eventually to the palace of Pharaoh himself! JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT tells the inspiring tale of staying true to one’s dreams to overcome any obstacle: it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, anyone can achieve greatness. After all, any dream will do.

Featuring memorable and infectious numbers such as, “Go! Go! Go! Joseph,” “Close Every Door,” “Joseph’s Coat,” and “Any Dream Will Do”, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT comes to the McManus Stage at the Grand Theatre March 27-April 5, 2020 in a lively presentation of this blockbuster musical that will inspire your inner dreams.
