March 29 to 31, 2011

By Jennifer Overton
Directed by Pablo Felices-Luna

For Grades 4-8

Simon’s mother is always paying attention to his younger and autistic brother, Jake. When a televised spelling bee contest is announced, Simon sees his opportunity to shine. He also discovers that Jake is a great speller in a unique way, so he has to decide if he can share the spotlight with his brother. In Spelling 2-5-5, Simon finds empathy for Jake. The play promotes a greater understanding of autistic children and the issues they face at home and school, while inspiring dialogue between young people.
