Art

By Yasmina Reza
Translated by Christopher Hampton
Presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
Directed by Nigel Shawn Williams

February 21 to March 11, 2017

Serge spends an enormous sum of money on what appears to be nothing more than a white canvas.  His old friend, Marc, thinks Serge is the sucker of the century.  Their mutual friend, Yvan, tries to broker a truce, but just aggravates both of them.  This Tony award-winning masterpiece, directed by Nigel Shawn Williams, explores the idea of what, if anything, defines art - and friendship.

"FUNNY, ENGAGING… audiences will no doubt debate on the way home" – Washington Post

"...wildly funny, naughtily provocative..." – NY Post

"...a nonstop cross-fire of crackling language... Reza is a fiendishly clever writer" – Newsweek

"Anyone looking for a play that is funny, sophisticated, stylish, stimulating and moving should go to 'ART'." – Independent (London)

"That such a simple plot can throw up such profound and meaty ideas about the rules that dictate art and friendship is a real treat …The real pleasures come from Reza's creation of three beautifully defined, original characters..." – The Mail (London)

Directed by Nigel Shawn Williams (The Mountaintop)
